Natalie Portman On Tonight's Project Runway

Press release from Bravo:

Oscar-nominated actress Natalie Portman ("The Other Boleyn Girl") guest judges on this week's new episode of Bravo's "Project Runway," Wednesday, July 23 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. After Jerry failed to wow the judges in the first episode, the remaining 15 designers are forced to think green in the second episode of "Project Runway"- with the help of their trusted models. Little do they know their eco-friendly designs will be judged by Portman.

On this week's episode of "Shear Genius," Wednesday, July 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, life's a beach! The stylists must create a fun new look for laid-back surfer boys, giving them hair that compliments their lifestyle, both on and off the beach. The competition heats up during the elimination challenge as the stylists must use customized wigs to create a fashionable cut and style for prematurely balding women. Oscar Blandi (clients include Katie Holmes, Salma Hayek and Jessica Biel), one of the most sought-after stylists in the country, joins as guest judge.

Flipped Out

Bravo

Poor Jenni!
First her loser, lying husband (Chris #1) gets fired, then she goes to a jobsite and steps on a roofing nail. And between the personal problems with Chris (he's breaking up with her), she's moving out of Jeff's rental property to move in with a friend.
Then she goes and hands a blank check to a contractor. Oopsie!
Anyone else think Julia Louis-Dreyfus could play Jenni in a Saturday Night Live skit???

"I don't think my parents ever held me when I was a kid," Jeff stated. That explains so much. For all his faults, Jeff can be pretty open about his own short-comings, and admits he is uncomfortable with hugging when he thinks Jenni needs a hug. BUT he does call a masseuse for an appointment, any time, for Jenni. He then says in an aside that he really cares about Jenni and he only wants her to be happy. I thought that was the sweetest moment of the season.
And you don't often get to say that about Jeff Lewis!

The good news about this episode (other than this will probably be the best thing for Jenni in the long run...) = Chris #2 got a promotion!

Next week on Flipping Out: Has Jeff met his match... in an eleven year old???

Matt-who?

Remember two weeks ago, after watching the first episode of Shear Genius - when I predicted that soon we'd be saying "Matt-who?" about Metrosexual Matthew? Well at the end of episode 3 Matt gets to go home to his wife. I swear, if we heard about how much he wanted to be with his wife one more time, I was going to scream. We get it, Matt, you have a wife. Bravo. However, you can't listen to your client when she tells you her hair won't hold a curl. Let's hope you listen more to your wife from up there on her pedestal.
I liked Charlie's Red Carpet style, but I didn't think it was the best. I thought there were others who were more Genius, like Gail's or Glenn's.
The regular judges seemed to be hitting their strides in this episode, and guest Red Carpet Judge Allison Sweeney certainly had fun with it. And of course, you can't go wrong with Jaclyn Smith.

Shear Genius 2

Who Makes The Cut
On Tonight's Shear Genius?

I gotta say I'm loving the fabulous Jacyln Smith on Shear Genius, but that Kim Vo scares me. Is it just me, or does it look like his lips swallowed his chin?
So far, I'm rooting for Daniel, Dee, Charlie, and Nekisa to make it to the Final Four. But I do wish Charlie would shave... Who are you rooting for to be named Shear Genius?

Shear Genius airs at 10pm on Wednesdays, only on Bravo.

Shrunken Shirt

Tonight on Flipping Out, indomitable housekeeper Zoila shrinks one of Jeff's shirts, then scolds him for paying $80 for it.
Then asks if she can have it.
I imagine someone's gonna be Flipping Out!

Kathy & Rosie: Together Again

Kathy goes to visit Rosie O'Donnell for some craft time tonight on My Life On The D-List. Kathy's not really into crafting, so she says "That's why God invented assistants" as she makes Team Griffin dive into the crafts with Ro.

Flipped Out

Photobucket

Has anyone else seen Bravo's newest train wreck - season two of Flipping Out?
Jeff Lewis is a mix of sexy and scary -- handsome classic good looks mixing those bee-stung lips and that egocentric OCD personality, surrounded with a cast of characters trying not to bitch-slap the flipped-out diva dude.
I feel the worst for super housekeeper Zoila - who in episode two asks for a day off for her birthday. "Didn't you have Christmas Day off?" asks Jeff. He then asks her to postpone her birthday (!) and tells her that she is selfish for not being there to make his breakfast and do his laundry. He ends up making her work on her birthday, but as a "reward" for working that day he has her portrait commissioned:

zoila

Understandably, Zoila hates it. "We could use it to scare away the coyotes," snipes a clueless Jeff, who finally relents and has some of the "rougher" bits of the portrait touched up by the artist. Zoila still hates it and relegates it to hang by the cat's litter box.
The personal drama between the characters is more interesting to me than the house-flipping stuff - mostly because I want to scream at the idiot workmen who've been hired. Um, hello - if you know you have the anal-retentive diva dude as your boss checking on your work, why not do it right the first time?!?

Friday Snark

Our snarkilicious reality diva, Reeyala T Bytes, continues her summer vacation, leaving me to fill her void. Well, that came out just wrong. You know what I mean…

Let’s start this week’s snarky diatribe with my newest Bravo addiction, the hair-raising second season of Shear Genius and its first “cut” Oshun. From the moment he first said “I’m Oshun and I’m deep” I rolled my eyes. Even when he went down in flames during the Quick Cut, he still touted his Emmy nominations and still insisted he was a force to be reckoned with, “Because I’m Oshun and I’m deep.” Fortunately, he not only lost the Quick Cut but also the Cartoon-Inspired Elimination Challenge with a really bad Lucy VanPelt, and we were spared any more “deep” bullshit from this hairtestant.

Other Shear Genius contestants that made me cringe: Glamazon Nekisa, who looked too much like Celine Dion for me to take seriously. We’ll call her Celine Dijon. Then there’s the self-proclaimed straight guy, Metrosexual Matthew (“I have a wife” he proclaimed in his five second introduction, letting us know he was the token straight male stylist)…. Um, thanks Matt, for sharing. We get it, you're not gay. Really. After cutting himself during the blindfolded Quick Cut, I predict that within a few episodes we’ll be saying Matt-who?

Which brings us to the first episode standouts Dee and Daniel: Dee is a firey little Latina who looks like she’s auditioning to be a Shark in West Side Story. Her sheer enthusiasm in winning the blindfolded Quick Cut won me over. The night’s other winner, Dallas Hairspray Aficionado Daniel has the charm, the charisma and the talent to be in it for the long haul. If only he wasn’t channeling the Richard Blais faux-hawk. I know it’s apparently fashionable to sport “the sail” (as Richard called it) on reality contestant shows, but I hope that Daniel gets a new ‘do a few eps into the season. His Wilma Flinstone-inspired hairdo was indeed Shear Genius, and deserved to win the first episode’s challenge. I want to see a challenge where the hairtestants are forbidden to use hairspray, and see how Daniel handles it.

And if Shear Genius wasn’t gay enough for you, tonight Bravo goes totally gay with the Gay List Awards. Er, I mean the GLAAD Awards. That’s the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation for those of you who don’t speak Gay. The pre-recorded ceremony airs tonight at 7 on Bravo, followed by the broadcast premiere of Brokeback Mountain. Now, I may lose my GayCard for saying this, but Brokeback isn’t one of my favorite movies. I’m glad I saw it, and I think the performances from the four leads (Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams) were outstanding. But one of my favorite movies? No. Give me a Latter Days boy-gets-boy happy ending any day. Yes, a Happy Ending always helps to take the snark away...

Until then, Reality TV: I just can't quit you!

Shear Genius Tonight

Shear Genius 2

Can I just say I'm excited to see Jaclyn Smith in something other than a made-for-Lifetime TV movie?
Shear Genius Season Two premieres tonight, and I'll be watching not only for La Smith but also for the inevitable madcap assortment of stylists. I mean, hello - have you seen the previews?

Top Chef Reunion

Last night's Top Chef: Chicago Reunion Special was entertaining, but left me wanting more.
Wouldn't you love to see a Quickfire Challenge between Padma & Tom versus Ted & Gail? Then have the cheftestants judge them! Now that would be a fun reunion special!
Instead, we got the clips of f-bombs, fights (of course hearing Dale called a little "bitch" doesn't really grow old!), alleged bromance, and a reel of sourpuss Lisa scowling.
Richard got beamed in from Atlanta where he waited for the birth of his daughter - and the producers sent him a Top Chef logo onesie for the baby. Which was immediately flogged as being available at Bravo TV dot com.... also available is Andrew's "I have a culinary boner" saying on a T-shirt. I guess Bravo didn't make enough from Gladware and Evian product placement.
Best part for me was not Richard calling Dale's nipples "beautiful" but the Black Hammer segment on Antonia. That was something we didn't see as viewers over the course of the season, and it was amusing.
Most awkward part: the host asking Zoi and Jenn if internet rumors of their breakup were factual. Jenn tried to say that they'd experienced "bumps" while a fighting-tears Zoi said their private lives were shared enough with the public and from now on they were to be private. Oh honey, then you shouldn't have gone on a reality TV show!
While I wish that Antonia or Richard had been named Fan Favorite, so they could have shared the wealth, I was happy that our gal Stephanie reigned supreme with viewers as well as the judges. As Fan Favorite, Stephanie got ten thousand dollars, and that will go a long way in helping open up her new restaurant in Chicago, I'm sure.

Next week, we get Shear Genius with Jacyln Smith and a new crop of reality TV contestants to dish about. But it won't be the same as Top Chef!

Snarkless Tidbits

Our intrepid Reality TV reporter Reeyala T Bytes has taken some time off, so I'm going to fill in with some TV tidbits...

  • I was SO thrilled for Top Chef Stephanie this week. I was rooting equally for Steph and Richard right up to the final episode, but I think Richard hit the nail on the head when he said he "choked" in the finale. I mean, the pickled radish got more compliments than the slab of pork fat it was sitting on. Yay Stephanie for being the first female Top Chef!
  • The Top Chef producers really had me nervous that they might pick sourpuss Lisa as the winner. I'm so glad they didn't reward a surly season of bad cooking with any undeserved accolades. Oh - and Lisa, congrats on the bronze. Because I know you'd call me on it if I didn't wish you congratulations.
  • Next Wednesday night: the Top Chef: Chicago Reunion Special!
  • Had a couple great laughs with Kathy Griffin on My Life On The D-List last night. It was amusing to watch her awards-show-date and Apple Computers co-founder Steve Wozniak pay more attention to a little iGadget than to the lookin-hot Kathy in the limo. I hope it was just the producers of the show playing it up for laughs, and he actually was a more-doting date.
  • Bravo's A-List Awards last night was quite entertaining, although they could have just as well called it the Gay List Awards. They even made a joke about their audience being women and gay men. Best part of the evening: Kathy Griffin's opening number - a classic!
They should have had her close the show with an equally stunning number, but the Myanmar Project Runway Fashion Show was fun. And Kathy's dress clearly was the best - but Nikki Blonsky's was a close second!
  • Speaking of dresses, though - Caroline Rhea's outfit on the A-List Awards: um, honey, NO! It was so un-flattering for your fuller-figure, and the shoulder collar thingy made you look like a hunch back! Get thee to the person who designed Nikki's Myanmar dress!
  • The fabulous Cheyenne Jackson was on the CBS Early Show this morning, singing from Xanadu, publicizing the Tony Awards. Cheyenne, pictured above, has a great voice, and certainly is easy on the eyes.
  • Love the official Xanadu on Broadway website, by the way!
  • Did anyone else catch the premiere of the new Sci-Fi show Charlie Jade last week? Interesting concept of multiple parallel universes, with a noir detective twist. The atmosphere of Charlie's universe kind of reminded me of Bladerunner sometimes.
  • Tonight's Doctor Who on Sci-Fi Channel is called "The Unicorn and the Wasp" where The Doctor and Donna travel to 1926 Britain and join forces with none other than Agatha Christie to solve a murder.
  • The mid-season-ending episode of Battlestar Galactica airs tonight @ 10pm on the Sci-Fi Channel. Newly installed President Lee "Apollo" Adama has to deal with Colonial issues while kidnapped-by-the-Cylons Laura Roslin is used as bait to draw out the Final Five. Sci-Fi Channel has not scheduled the second half of the final season yet, so tonight's cliffhanger is it for the foreseeable future. Frak!

Kathy! Kathy! Kathy!

My favorite Emmy-award winning redhead returns with Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D-List at 9 on Bravo tonight, followed by her hosting the A-List Awards at 10.

Yay! Stephanie!

Could the producers have made the Top Chef: Chicago Season Finale more tension-filled?
I don't freakin' think so!
Damn that Lisa for suddenly finding a pleasant personality and pulling her sour shit together for the last episode.
But overall, it would have been Stephanie's meal that I would have wanted to eat.
60% of America agreed with me - in the Bravo TV poll, Stephanie was the clear majority winner with voters.
Richard choked, Lisa actually made an edible meal, but
Stephanie is TOP CHEF!

And yes, I whooped for joy. I'm truly happy for her!

I have only one more thing to say:
Next Wednesday = Top Chef: Chicago Reunion Show!
